Our Summer Serenade

Our Summer Serenade

Moonlit night, holding hands, tart lemonade.

Dancing girl, makes me smile, slow promenade.

Summer sparks, lips meet mine, so unafraid.

Hold you close, nuzzle neck, scent’s serenade.

Shooting stars, backseat smooch, a killdeer cries.

Firefly fun, chigger bites, ketchup some fries.

Sharing dreams, compliments, she thinks I’m wise.

Snow cone tongues, belly laughs, no big surprise.

Getting late, no one cares, good vibrations.

Enticing eyes, same old couch, excitations.

Goodnight kiss, our song plays, new sensations.

In our hearts, forever, sweet elations.

 A note from Chris

It is not a coincidence that I have chosen some very specific (and perhaps familiar!) words in the last few lines of my poem “Our Summer Serenade”.   If you need some help on the reference,  the song would be “Good Vibrations” by the Beach Boys.

This poem is constructed in a rhyming couplets format. I designed each line to have the exact same number of syllables in a 3/3/4 arrangement. So every line has 3 parts ….first part has 3 syllables, second part has 3 and the third part has 4 syllables….kind of fun to write ! And of course the last section is my homage to “Good Vibrations”
