Valentine Gems From the Past

 

She Said

 

I close my eyes and imagine

your gentle and soft touch.

Please know that I need you close,

and I love you so very much.

 

I love to watch you watchin’ me,

catchin’ you even when I sleep.

I know that true faith and devotion

confirms our special love so deep.

 

I adore the silly looks and giggles,

when we tickle, tease and play.

Your knowing smile and sly glances

assure intrigue, encourage me to stay.

 

Your hands send chills, I accept your kiss,

so sweet and tender as I taste your lips.

In my heart I will forever feel such bliss,

as from our cup of love we take our sips.

 

 

Painting You With Words

 

You never seem to mind when

I splatter you with flattery,

or cover you in a kaleidoscope

of complimentary colors.

 

You’re the most pleasing palette,

perfectly posed without complaint,

commanding focus and concentration

with no concern for my constraint.

 

I love to trace your figure

with a deliberate artistic touch,

committing you to memory,

so well versed in every line.

 

Contemplating every contour,

carefully studying such splendid symmetry,

then composing heartfelt sentiments

in fanciful inventive imagery.

 

By any definition you’re beyond

most logic and description,

by design I live to paint you

with expressive imagination.

 

To portray your essential essence

requires no explicit shade or hue,

just colorful strokes of genius brushed

from my admiring point of view.

 

 

I Thank My Lucky Star

 

Before the day of your arrival,

that very blessed day,

plans not known to anyone

were already under way.

 

Our lucky stars determined,

and they probably had a clue,

that it would take some extra time

     for me to find my way to you.

 

Now together on this journey,

in each other we’re depending,

our hearts and souls committed

to our true love that’s never ending.

 

 

A note from Chris

I grew up in the 1950’s and in elementary school these are exactly

the kind of Valentine cards we would exchange with our friends.

I was very particular in the pairing of each of these poems with

the accompanying cards and expressions on those cards.  I hope

you can appreciate the sweet messages along with my original

poems.  Happy Valentines to you and your loved ones and

may you always have that special love in your hearts and memories.
