As Close As Close Can Be
I love your expectant gaze
into my gleaming eyes,
as you follow my every move.
Instantly hope increases
as love’s prospects soar,
our aspiring hearts approve.
Magnetically attracted, eagerly engaged,
our bodies committed,
wanting to occupy the same cozy space.
We’re riveted together, focused and attentive,
thoroughly absorbed
in one unending sweet embrace.
Playful ambitious lips and hands
enthralled by your body’s heat,
completely devoted to our love’s delight.
Hold me, just hold me close,
as close as close can be,
until we awaken at early morning’s light.
A note from Chris
The image is entitled “Under One Umbrella” by Leonid Afremov. He paints with oils and palette knife. I want to extend my extreme appreciation for Mr. Afremov’s kind permission to use his beautiful artwork on my site. He currently lives in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. You can enjoy his paintings and find out how to own his artwork at www.afremov.com. Please read his biography and learn about his journey and why his artwork is collected all over the world. It is a wonderful story.
I am submitting this poem for d’Verse Poets Pub ~ OpenLinkNight ~ Week 34.

Brian, Thanks for stopping in and sharing! Just tryin’ to do my part ~ good to know that you are feelin’ the love! Grace to you today!
playful and sweet
Just gorgeous, loved it.
wow. first let me say, the pix is beautiful. then, let me say, I like the ‘form’ of your poem. and last, great emotions shown in the piece. that is really ‘Love’
Lovely in content and presentation. The flow of your stanza placement draws the eye to the next thought beautifully
Beth, Thanks for sharing about the stanza placement and structure on this one – I spent quite a while experimenting (constructing and deconstructing) with the number of lines in each stanza and the flow on this poem. I know I probably have a lot to learn about the more formal technical aspects of our craft. I finally settled on this approach and I am very happy with the flow and the way it breaks from line to line. I appreciate your critique so much!
first…that pic is awesome!! – would love to take a walk there…now reading your poem…. smiles..and you made it a love poem..what else..nice..enjoyed..
Claudia, Yes the painting is most outstanding! I sometimes worry about the images/photos/paintings that I choose might outshine my poetry! I didn’t think it would be this tough to pair up meaningful and complementary artwork with my poems. I must say though, that it has been a very satisfying adventure so far. So happy that you enjoyed it!
Lovely sentiments attached toa beautiful painting.
sigh… lovely.
How lovely! I just stopped by via dVerse. Nice job!
Madeleine, Thank you for the “atta boy!” (as we say in Texas!) My blog is only about 2 months old and I am attempting a few improvements on the site. Now if I can just keep writing!
Such a moment many do not want to leave and sometimes hard to find, great verse really played wonderfully off the pic.
Pat, Thanks for stopping by and sharing back some thoughts! Initially I thought the poem might require an image a little bit more intimate in nature. But Leonid’s painting does capture my vision so well. I agree!
